When I was going through a box of Scott’s stuff, I rediscovered our courtship letters. One letter contained a poem that he wrote to me when I was overseas at my sister’s wedding in France. It was a poem of missing and longing. It spoke to me anew. I had to put it to music. The only change I made to his lyrics is the second chorus where I say, “how it feels to lose you.”
10,000 Miles Away
From 10000 miles away, the night closes in. The snow turns to rain.
From 10000 miles away, I sit in the dark, and call out your name.
From 10000 miles away, time inches by. I feel so alone.
From 10000 miles away, how long must you stay? I wish you were home.
And all the time I’m wondering if you’re thinking of me too,
And why I can’t explain how it feels when I’m with you.
From 10000 miles away, I picture your face. And hold back the pain.
From 10000 miles away, if just one more time, I could hold you again.
Cause all the time I’m wondering if you’re thinking of me too,
And why I can’t explain how it feels to lose you.
From 10000 miles away, the night closes in. The snow turns to rain.
From 10000 miles away, if just one more time, I could hold you again.
